Monday: Due:
Chemical symbol flashcards (only for those students who have not passed
the test over chemical symbols.)
Test: Chemical Symbols (4th test)
Students will review matter and atomic structure by checking their answers to the worksheet "Atomic Structure Review".
Students should
begin to study at home for a test over Chapter 1 to be given on Friday.
Students can prepare for the test by taking the online practice test located on this website (under "Matter and Atoms Practice Test".)
Students will be introduced to electron diagrams and
determine the location of electrons around the nucleus of an atom (worksheet to
be completed in class).
Tuesday: Students will complete
“Write Now: Atomic Structure.”
Students will then watch the “BrainPOP “Atomic Model.”
Students will be assigned an element and provided instructions for
creating an atom model. Students will create their model in class on
Tuesday, September 25. They will need to bring materials from home to represent
protons, neutrons, and electrons. Other materials (glue, poster board,
markers) will be provided. This project should not be expensive.
Students may use a variety of materials, such as cereal, candy, beads, or
buttons. Materials must be small in order to fit on the piece of poster
board provided. Creativity is encouraged. The assignment is a
formal evaluation of their knowledge of atomic structure and will count as a
test grade. Students should bring the instructions home to share with
parents tonight.
Wednesday: Using their online textbooks,
students will complete the interactive concept map under “Chapter Resources,” “Concepts
in Motion.” Students will then take the “Online
Test Practice” under the “Chapter Review” tab.
After they have finished these two review items, students will complete the
online Chapter 1 Review (MBC). These are to be completed by the end of class
today.
Thursday: Video/Report: Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures.
Students will then complete the vocabulary assignment for Chapter 2
(MBC).
Friday: Test over Chapter 1.
Students will then begin the lab "Using Your Marbles."
