Lesson Plan for the Week of December 9, 2013
Monday: After watching a segment of "Chemistry: The Standard Deviants," Students will continue to balance equations.
Tuesday: Students will read Chapter 5, Section 2, over types of chemical equations. Students will then complete a worksheet where they will identify and balance equations.
Wednesday: Snowman Challenge: Students will see how many equations they can balance in one class period.
Thursday: Quiz over balancing equations. Following the quiz, students will learn the difference between endothermic and exothermic reactions.
Friday: Lab: Putting Bubbles to the Test. (Students must have all work completed before they may participate in labs.)
This is the last day for turning in missing assignments for credit.

Lesson Plan for the Week of December 2, 2013
Monday: Students will complete a MBC activity where they determine the type of bond formed by
identifying elements involved as metals or nonmetals. Following will be a class discussion over
metallic bonds.
Students will then complete the Chapter 4 Review (MBC).
Tuesday: Due: Chapter 4 Review.
Students will complete "Write Now:
Everything You Know About an Element."
Introduction to Chapter 5: Law of
Conservation of Mass.
Students will then complete the vocabulary for Chapter
5 (MBC).
Wednesday: Test: Chapter 4. (To prepare for the test,
students should take the practice test found under "Practice Tests"
on this web site.)
Following a short video over the Law of
Conservation of Mass, students will be introduced to the parts of a
chemical equation: reactants, products, coefficients, subscripts, and yield sign.
Thursday: Due: Chapter 5 Vocabulary.
Students will begin learning how to balance
chemical equations. Students will need to practice balancing equations by
using the link found on this web site under "Science Links."
Friday: Lab: Students should
complete "What's the Matter with Bubbles" and begin the lab
"Putting Bubbles to the Test." (Students must have all
work completed before they may participate in lab.)

Lesson Plan for the Week of November 25, 2013
Monday: Students will review reading and writing chemical formulas by completing "Chemical Formula Review" on MBC. Students may submit this assignment twice, if necessary, for the best score. Students will then be introduced to covalent bonds.
Homework: Ionic Bonding/Covalent Bonding.
Tuesday: Lab: What's the Matter With Bubbles. (This lab is to make up for the lab missed due to a two-hour delay last Friday. Students must have all work completed to participate in labs.)
Wednesday: Video and Report: Fantastic Fireworks
Thursday and Friday: Thanksgiving Holiday!! Enjoy!

Lesson Plan for the Week of November 18, 2013
Monday: Student groups will finish presentations over "The Five Most Important Elements."
Introduction to reading chemical formulas: Students will be introduced to coefficients and subscripts in order to determine the number of atoms of each element in a chemical formula. Students will read an introduction to chemical formulas on MBC, then view a short tutorial. Students will then complete the worksheet "Writing and Reading Chemical Formulas" on MBC.

Tuesday: We will review how to determine the number of valence electrons using an element's location on the periodic table. Students will read Chapter 4, Section 1, p. 121. Students will complete the worksheet "Writing Electron Dot Diagrams" and create electron dot diagrams for four elements.
Wednesday: Students will read Chapter 4, Section 3, pp. 134-136. Students will use electron dot diagrams to show how ionic bonds from between positive and negative ions. (This will complete the worksheet they began yesterday.)
Thursday: Students will complete the worksheet "Determining oxidation numbers". Students will then read Chapter 4, Section 2, pp. 126-130. Students will go to MBC to match formulas to chemical names.
Friday: Lab: Students will continue to lab "What's the Matter with Bubbles." (Students must have all work completed in order to participate in labs.)
